GLP-1 Weight Loss Near You, From Home or in Person

Get Weight Loss Care With GLP-1 Medications From Home or in Person

Losing weight can feel like a battle you’re fighting alone, especially when diet and exercise haven’t been enough. Weight is about more than willpower, and sometimes your care needs more than a new meal plan. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications are one option your doctor may recommend as part of a weight loss plan.

Heather Rosen, MD, offers weight loss care with GLP-1 medications for adults. She reviews your health history, your goals, and the medications you take to see whether a GLP-1 medication is a good fit. She also talks with you about healthy eating and physical activity, which work best alongside medication. You can see Dr. Rosen by telehealth from home in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, or Virginia. You can also visit our offices in Jeannette and Keyser. Dr. Rosen also provides family medicine, so your weight loss care can fit into your whole health.

If you’re ready to talk, request a weight loss appointment, and we’ll help you choose the right visit.

Medical Weight Loss and GLP-1 Medications

Weight Loss With GLP-1 Medications at Recovery Care

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) explains that obesity is a chronic disease affecting more than 4 in 10 U.S. adults. Weight loss medication is meant for people whose weight puts their health at risk. A doctor may consider it for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher. A doctor may also consider it for a BMI of 27 or higher when a weight-related health problem is present, such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.

It isn’t for everyone with a high BMI, and it isn’t meant to change how you look. Dr. Rosen reviews your history before she recommends it, and she’ll talk with you about whether other approaches might fit you better.

How GLP-1 Medications Work

NIDDK describes some GLP-1 medications as mimicking a hormone that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake.

Appetite Signals

In plain terms, they can help you feel less hungry and full sooner.

Weekly Injection

Some are given as a weekly injection.

Healthy Habits

Medication works best alongside healthy eating and regular physical activity, not in place of them.

What to Expect From Your Visits

Your care starts with a conversation. You can meet by telehealth or in person.

  1. Your first visit.

You’ll talk with Dr. Rosen about your health history, your weight goals, the medications you take, and what you’ve tried before. She’ll ask about eating habits, activity, and sleep too.

  2. Your plan.

Together, you’ll decide whether a GLP-1 medication fits your health. If it does, Dr. Rosen explains your options, what to expect, and how healthy eating and activity fit in. If it doesn’t, she talks with you about other options.

  3. Your follow-up visits.

Regular check-ins let Dr. Rosen see how you’re feeling, track your progress, and watch for side effects. NIDDK notes that a doctor will usually reassess if you haven’t lost at least 5% of your starting weight after 12 weeks on the full dose.

  4. Your ongoing care.

Because obesity is a chronic condition, your plan can change over time.

How Insurance and Costs Work for GLP-1 Weight Loss

Some, but not all, insurance plans cover medications that treat overweight and obesity. Recovery Care accepts most major insurance plans, and you can see them on our page listing the insurance plans we accept. Coverage for weight loss medication varies by plan, so tell us which plan you have when you request your visit, and we’ll help you check. If you have questions about GLP-1 cost, call us at (304) 790-7467.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Recovery Care offer GLP-1 weight loss?

Yes, Recovery Care offers weight loss care with GLP-1 medications for adults. Dr. Rosen sees patients by telehealth in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia, and in person at our Jeannette and Keyser offices. At your first visit, she reviews your health history and goals to see whether a GLP-1 medication is right for you.

Who qualifies for GLP-1 weight loss medication?

Weight loss medication may be considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related health problem. Your doctor also looks at your health history, your current medications, and your family history. Weight loss medication isn’t right for everyone with a high BMI, so Dr. Rosen talks through your options with you.

How much weight can you lose with GLP-1 medication?

Results vary by person and by medication. NIDDK reports that adults who take prescription weight loss medication as part of a lifestyle program lose 3% to 12% more of their starting weight after one year, on average, than people in a lifestyle program alone. Most weight loss happens in the first six months. You will probably regain some weight after you stop taking the medication.

What are the side effects of GLP-1 medications?

NIDDK notes that most side effects of weight loss medications are mild and often improve over time, and serious side effects are rare. Nausea is the most common side effect. Some GLP-1 medications should not be taken by people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, or by people who are pregnant. Dr. Rosen reviews your history, explains what to watch for, and checks in on how you feel at each visit.
